RV Space Savers has lost Our Beloved Boss

Share Button

In Loving Memory of Our Precious CoCo (the boss).

2005-2017

Most of you have met CoCo through the years as she was always in the booth watching over everything that was going on.  Since she was a service dog she went everywhere with me, was so loving and took such good care of me.  As you can imagine we are devastated that she is no longer with us and she was one in a million.  We miss her terribly.

Has RV Space Savers been lost or wandering?

But yes maybe we have been both!  Since I last sent out a newsletter, a lot has happened in our world.  As I had last told you we were in the process of doing some remodeling in our motor home to get ready to head south on October 1st.  As always seems to happen when you take on  a project, things take longer than expected so we were right up against it to get things wrapped up before hitting the road.

I’ve tried to download some photos but my internet service isn’t strong enough to download them. We are loving it and looking forward to getting the flooring replaced and the cabinets painted.  If you would like to see the photos, I will be creating an Album which I will put on my Facebook page in the next few days.  https://www.facebook.com/rvspacesavers.33.  I only share my posts with friends so if we are not already friends, you will need to send me a friend request to see them.

We did leave the Seattle area on October 1st and stopped in the Salt Lake City area to visit family for a few days which was so fun.  We then headed to southern Utah where we met friends Marilu and John and Patti and Warren. We spent a day in Capital Reef National Park.  It is the one park in the Grand Circle that we had not seen and oh my was it gorgeous.  The six of us traveled together, which was so fun, to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and met a Facebook friend and her husband and had great visits with them. We split up and then it was off to the Six-State FMCA Rally in Texarkana, AR for us.  It was fun to see old friends and meet many new ones at the rally. While we were there, we met many members of the Crusin’ Cajuns who were hosting a rally in Rayne, LA and asked us to exhibit at their upcoming rally so we changed our plans and headed to Louisiana . Remember Nick Russell says Rver’s plans are made in Jello!  What fun we had there and what a great group of people who welcomed us with open arms. I gave two seminars at each rally and they were well attended.    They want us to come back in April for their Spring Rally.  We then went on to Alabama where we visited with more Facebook friends and then headed to Florida’s Forgotten Coast for a few days.  We are now at Thousand Trails Orlando with friends Joyce and Jim, Marilu and John are close by and  we will all be spending Christmas together.  So as you can see, life has been busy for us which is why I have been so lax in getting out newsletters.

New Tip from a Seminar attendee: When I gave the tip about using a white toothpaste and clean cloth to remove the dull film from headlight lens, a gentleman  said that Off Insect Repellent also works.  Just spray on and shine with a clean cloth.  I haven’t tried it but certainly worth a try.

Safety Tip: Someone sent me an article on how lemon slices in restaurants are full of bacteria and there is no oversight on them by the health department!  Well since I am a lemon lover and use six wedges in a tall glass of water, I have started buying several (or a bag if I find them) when they are inexpensive.  I wash them well  and then using the Lemon/Lime Slicer, I slice them and freeze in freezer bags.  When we’re going out to eat, I take a small ziplock bag with my own six wedges to put in my water.  https://rvspacesavers.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=176.  Only $10.00 and mighty cheap insurance if the article is true!

Great tip for your Christmas tree:  Years ago we attended the big Tampa RV  show and I bought a Wheeltopper Steering Wheel Table.  It was only $20.00 and I use it whenever we are stopped for any length of time and put a variety of things on it but at Christmas time I use it for our tree.  It looks very pretty there and is still out of the way.   http://www.wheeltopper.com/shop/wheeltopper

Another Great Holiday Tip:  Collect key chains from places you visit and use them as ornaments for your tree.  Most of them are flat and take up very little space the rest of the year.  It’s fun to reminisce about places you have been as you hang them on the tree.

Great Christmas Gifts for your gift list.

On Sale:  Makes great holiday gifts.  Guacamole and Salsa Bowl Gift Set…one of each.  $20.00 plus shipping.

Guacamole and Salsa Bowls

Our business is still for sale so if you know of anyone who might be interested, please have them contact me  We are still actively doing the business and are exhibiting at  the Southeast FMCA Rally in Lakeland, FL in February and the FMCA International Rally in Perry, GA in March as well as checking on several others. You can contact me at the above email address.

Great Places to Visit:  We have been to some beautiful places on this trip and have seen some amazing things.  One of our favorites so far on this trip is Florida’s Forgotten Coast.   It is called that because most people stay on Interstate 10 until they get down to the more populated cities in the state.  We left I-10 and headed south on Hwy 71 and into the Apalachicola National Forest to Hwy 98 which hugs the coast.  WOW was it a gorgeous trip.  So much to see and do, several Florida State Parks in the area and lots of RV parks and the Wakulla Springs the largest and deepest springs in the world.  We wished we had planned more time in the area.  It is not only gorgeous but very quiet and peaceful compared to the hustle and bustle of the more populated areas of the state.

Wakulla Springs

We love hearing from you and hopefully I will get back to sending out a newsletter every week or two.  It would be great to hear from you if you appreciate and want me to continue to write this as it takes quite a bit of time and if you don’t find it worthwhile then it makes no sense to continue doing it.  You can always contact us at rvspacesavers@gmail.com.

I found this quote which is so true and we have met so many great people and look forward to meeting many more.  What a blessed journey it has been.   Until next time.

RV Space Savers Wishes You A Happy and Blessed Easter

Share Button

RV Space Savers is Wishing you all a very happy and blessed Easter.  Many of you are still either south or headed north so many are not with friends and family but do things to celebrate in other ways.  We have found some wonderful Easter Brunches in our travels that are fun to do.  Whatever your plans, we hope you have a wonderful day.  Since we have been in the Seattle area for the winter, we will be enjoying spending the day with the family and a traditional “Adult Easter egg hunt” with little bottles of liquors and age appropriate drinks for the underage and those who don’t drink alcohol.  It’s been a fun tradition for many years.  And we’re at the point of being able to hide our own Easter eggs! 🙂

Don’t forget the Spring Sale on All Things Avocado

To celebrate the start of the California Avocado Season and Spring we are offering a great 20% discount on all things avocado sold at RV Space Savers until April 30th.    FREE avocado recipe booklets with every order. https://rvspacesavers.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=173.

These are the FREE recipe booklets included with your order while supplies last…donated by the California Avocado Commission.  https://www.californiaavocado.com/.

And if you are in southern California be sure to attend the Avocado Festival in Fallbrook on Sunday April 23rd.  It is a fun day filled with lots of things avocados.  http://www.fallbrookchamberofcommerce.org/events-v2/events/31st-Annual-Fallbrook-Avocado-Festival_ET1327.html

I love to share  tips using products that RVer’s already have in their RV’s and here are some worth the read.

Great tip:  Clean those hard water and grimy spots around the faucets.  http://askannamoseley.com/2011/03/reader-question-getting-rid-of-tough-water-build-up/.

TIP:  Things to Use dish soap for besides the dishes.  http://tiphero.com/ways-to-use-dish-soap/.

TIP:  Ways to clean stainless steel with products you probably already have.  I use just plain white vinegar.  http://tiphero.com/clean-stainless-steel/.

TIP:  Before heading out for the summer…sort, reorganize and purge, purge, purge.  We’re getting ready to take a couple of summer trips with the motor home.  Having been in the Seattle area since last May, I have not been good about keeping things as organized and followed my mantra of “a place for everything and everything in its place.”  This week has been spent going through everything inside the coach to organize and donate.  Next week will be able to start on the bays outside as we’re finally supposed to get some nice dry and sunny days so that will make that an easy task.  Hopefully I will be able to wash and pack away my winter mackinaw and warm winter clothes (yes that includes long johns) to store above our son’s garage until we have to spend another winter here (hopefully not soon).

TIP:  Lots of great fruit and veggies at Farmers Markets in the south so be sure and find them in your travels and get some homegrown produce.  Much better for you and much less expensive too.

Great Places to Visit:  Kartchner Caverns State Park in Arizona between Tucson and Tombstone looks like a fabulous place to visit while in the area.   http://blog.goodsam.com/RV-trip-to-kartchner-caverns-arizona?

And always remember you hold the map.  So create a life that is filled with awe, adventure and amazing moments.  Until next time.

It’s Spring…let’s just hope that Mother Nature agrees with spring weather all over the country.  Many of us in areas that had a long winter are more than ready.  Things are slowly beginning to bloom but downtown Seattle is way ahead of our area. One of our favorite things about spring is

California Avocado Season which starts April 1st.

We so love to be in southern California during this time.  We eat an avocado almost every day either by itself or in or on something and we love my Pomegranate Guacamole and have it as long as we can get the arils.  I love to try new things with avocados and found this recipe on the California Avocado Commission’s site and they have tons of great recipes.  http://www.californiaavocado.com/http://www.californiaavocado.com/.  Here is a recipe I will be trying this week.  CALIFORNIA AVOCADO BALELA.   I will be using the following RV Space Saver Tools to make this side dish.  Tools: Tomato Tool to cut the tomatoes; Prep Colander to drain peas and beans; Salsa Maker to chop the onions, parsley and mint; Avocado Tool to cut, remove pit and chop the avocado; reuse the Salsa Maker to make the dressing; Fiskie to stir everything together; Magnetic Measuring Spoons for measuring the spices; and  (3 qt.  bowl and collapsible measuring cups..no longer available)  All but the last 2 items can be purchased on  our website at https://rvspacesavers.com/shop/index.php?route=common/home.

To celebrate the start of the California Avocado Season and spring we are offering a great  20% off sale on all things avocado sold at RV Space Savers…Order nowLimited Supply while supplies last or April 30th. Order this special and receive FREE recipes directly from the California Avocado Commission.  https://rvspacesavers.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=173.

TIP: For those who have a gluten intolerance or celiac disease here is a website that might be helpful.  https://glutenfreegoddess.blogspot.com/2008/12/baking-cooking-substitutions-for-gluten.html.

TIP: And this is a great site for anyone with eating allergies.  I use it quite a lot for Mike.  http://www.eatingwithfoodallergies.com/

Many of us remember Grandma’s Rice Pudding…I sure do and loved it way back then. Thanks Danise for sending this recipe along.  How fun it will be to make it once again. Thanks Danise.

No One Will Ever Get Bored Of Grandma’s Old Fashioned Custard Style Rice Pudding!

Important TIP:  In the last newsletter I gave you a couple of important articles to read about the upcoming tick season.  Here is a recipe for a repellent that might be helpful.  Tick Repellent  http://usefultipsforhome.com/outdoor/1-simple-tip-keep-ticks-off-summer-long/.  Or you might try this:  To make a home remedy tick repellent, simply mix about two ounces or so of tea tree oil with water. It is a very strong agent, so make sure that the amount of water exceeds the oil, but not by a lot. Put the mixture into a spray bottle and spray on yourself and your family.  Be sure to check your pets often too.

Great Places to Visit:  The Most Scenic Roads in America.  This article was in the Passport America newsletter and I thought I would pass it along for all to enjoy.  http://www.businessinsider.com/americas-best-road-trips-2017-3.

“A friend is a present you give yourself.”  Thanks for the beautiful quote Danise.  You are all gifts to us and we look forward meeting you again down the road.

We love hearing from you and hope the journey to your next destination is filled with happiness, safety and the wonders this beautiful country has to offer.  Until next time.

Happy Anniversary RV Space Saving Tips and Ideas

Share Button

It’s our 6th anniversary and we would like to thank you all for helping to make

RV Space Savers a success in these past 6 years.

Thinking back to when and why we started this business, I am reminded of when we first moved into our motor home planning to live full time and spend the rest of our lives traveling this beautiful country.  Getting ready to sell our home and its contents we loaded into the motor home all the things we thought we needed and some things we thought we wanted to take with us…WHAT A MISTAKE!  Within 90 days I was going crazy being unable to find things we wanted and knew we had.  Having to empty drawers, cabinets, closets and basement bays to find what we were looking for is the very thing most of us who live or travel in an RV struggle with.  I told Mike either we find some solutions or I wouldn’t be able to continue our dream.  And after several years of research, organizing the motor home (a never ending project as I discover new ways to save space and make our lives easier)and filling my need to help others, we started the business to share the tips, ideas and products with others.  And neither of us have regretted it for a minute.  As time has gone on, I started giving seminars and then this newsletter was born.  I hope you enjoy it and I get many, many great comments on the seminars I give.

As I stated last week, January is typically Organizing Month and I am always looking for new ways to make life easier and simple without taking up space.

Great Tip:  A tip similar to this was submitted by an attendee of one of my seminars several years ago with her tip being: When you leave your RV for a day or several hours, write on a white board where you are going and when you plan to return.  In case of an emergency others would be able to have a starting point.  Another seminar attendee suggested something very much like this photo and is an excellent idea as if you had an emergency while in you RV and needed emergency help, you may not know the address of where you are staying. Just make sure you change the information as you travel.

Tip Sent in By Reader:  37  Favorite Ideas to Save Time in the Kitchen…sent to me by Marilu from Jillee.  Thanks to both.

http://www.onegoodthingbyjillee.com/37-sanity-saving-kitchen?

Tip to TRY:  Kill Those Ants…I haven’t tried this and don’t know if it works but many have reported that it does and since it is so simple and you probably already have the ingredients, it’s certainly worth a try!  http://www.hometalk.com/17429659/kill-ants-instantly-natural-diy-spray-?se=fol_new-20170107-1&date=20170107&slg=d6ac1c5aa0b3da94aa1acd2fd20265b9-15287402.

Great Reader Tip:  TWILIGHT SAFETY

Walking at sunrise or sunset can be peaceful and invigorating for both the body and the soul.

However, low light conditions can be dangerous.   Here are a couple of tips to stay safe while enjoying your walk.

  1. Wear light or white clothing so you are easily visible to drivers.

Fluorescent colors actually appear dark in low light.

  1. Choose shoes, jackets, and safety vests with retro-reflective patches

     that shine in headlights.

3..Carry a flashlight and keep it on so drivers will see it.  If possible carry it

on the “street side” for better visibility to the driver.

  1. Remove your sunglasses at dusk so you can see anything that might

    endanger you.

This tip was sent in by reader Danise…thanks so much.

Another note from Danise: For Walking your Dog:  There are many leashes, collars, etc. that are reflective as well.

We have recently saw a collar that had flashing red LED lights all the way around. We recently bought one at Mud Bay for our dog, that looks like a tube.. It comes in one size fits all, and you just cut off the excess, then slip on and off the dogs head as needed.  It also came in blue and neon green. We chose the green one as being more visible.

Product Special:  January Special  Purchase a Silicone Baking Mat $10.00 and A Silicone Mini Basting Brush $5.00 and receive a Cotton Mesh Shopping Bag (a $5.00 value) absolutely free!    Good until midnight January 31,2017.  Many customers (including me) use a silicone mat in the bottom of their microwave as it is so easy to clean.  Both make great gifts.  Purchase at  https://rvspacesavers.com/shop.   You can see a photo and description of the Cotton Bag at https://rvspacesavers.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=35&product_id=152.

Baby…It’s Cold Outside by RV Space Savers

images-1This image says it all!  As much of the country is gripped in cold, rain and snow, I hope most of you are where it’s warm and sunny!  We are still in the Seattle area so for the most part it is cloudy and rainy however we had about 3 inches of snow earlier in the week.  Not excited about being in this weather in the winter but love being here to spend the holidays with our kids and grandkids!   What a wonderful life it is.  Last year we stayed in southern California and two of our three kids we able to come down for Christmas which was something different and fun. Certainly one of the great things about living in an RV is following the warm weather in the winter and cool weather in the summer.

Can you believe there are only 14 days until Christmas?  I hope you are all ready for whatever celebrating Christmas means to you.  In most places you can find lots of activities to create new memories if you are not with your family.  Check  out bazaars, concerts, church and school programs, lighting ceremonies and neighborhoods that are lit for the season, visiting folks in Assisted Living facilities, etc.  We have been doing lots of those kinds of things with our dear friends Marilu and John who are also spending the winter in Seattle.  Marilu and I made a bunch of these “Sock Snowmen” and delivered them to “forgotten seniors” in an Assisted Living facility in the area.  photo-dec-04-2-06-10-pmWe spent a fun afternoon together making and delivering them.  Here are the directions.  http://sumo.ly/3Q5Z.

Great Tip:  When we were in southern California last year I found  a couple of sites where you can put in the area you are staying in and find Christmas light displays.  hqdefaultWe found some gorgeous neighborhoods in the area last year and I also found some up here this year.  http://www.christmaslightfinder.com/ and  http://find.mapmuse.com/interest/xmas-displays.

Great Tip from Marilu:  Simple Sock Trick to stop your windows from fogging up. download-1We have trouble with our windows in the RV  fogging up and sure will try this tip.   http://theheartysoul.com/fix-foggy-window-cat-litter/?t=SNJV.  Do any of you have this problem and what do you do to keep the moisture at bay?  We have fans going and a small dehumidifer and we really have to manage it carefully.  This winter we have added a couple of the DampRiddownload-2 containers of little moisture pellets so we’ll see if they help.  We also watch the window sills to make sure there is no mold building up.  Would love to hear from you on what you do to control this issue.

Do you decorate your RV for Christmas?  If so do you decorate both inside and out? We only decorate the front of the MH as we have one of those little tables that fits over the steering wheel.  All our decorations are flat and easy to store.01b5fd493474974c12eb240745d55a330dd652c1ab  We’d love to share your photos if you send them to us at rvspacesavers@gmail.com.

A Tip from a Customer and Jillee.  Use a cutting board on top of your burners (make sure they are turned off and cool) as additional counter space.  This came to me from a customer who found a beautiful wooden cutting board the same size as the cooktop in her RV.  She had her husband install handles on either endimages-2so she can also use it as a serving tray.  I had totally forgotten this wonderful tip from Peggy (thanks Peggy) until this came the other day from Jillee.  This is a great idea also and you could certainly modify a larger board with feet.  http://www.onegoodthingbyjillee.com/how-to-modify-a-cutting-board-for-more-counter-space?

Sadly we did not have any votes for our entries to the contest!  We only had 6 entries and no votes.  All 6 entries will receive a 20% discount as a way of saying thanks for participating.

Folks…this newsletter is for download-3 What would get you to be involved?  Are there things you would like to see covered in the newsletter?  I have had requests for Places to Visit which I have added and Recipes using our products which I have also added.  I need to hear from you.  It is expensive to continue to do the newsletter and not get responses from you.  I have spoken with the people at Aweber and they say the opens for the newsletter are way above most they see and they don’t understand either why we’re not getting participation.  Please let me know what you’re thinking and how we can make it better for download-4RV Space Savers has lots of great gifts for your RV friends and family.  Check out our website ahttp://www.rvspacesavers.com/shop/

Tips and Ideas from RV Space Savers

Boy it doesn’t seem possible that Thanksgiving is just a week from today!  Why is it that the older we get the faster the time goes?  Seems like we wish our lives away when we are young: we wish we were old enough to do this or that, then we couldn’t wait to retire, etc., but now that many of us are we wonder how the years can pass so quickly.  Mike and I have now started our 8th year of full timing and neither one of us would change that decision.  I think many living full time in their RV feel the same as we do.  And while we live full time in our  RV we find ourselves being more like snowbirds and spending the summer at home in the Seattle area to be near our family and heading south to warmer climate in the winter.  For a multitude of reasons we are still in the Seattle area and sadly October set an “all time rain record.”  raining-3Sure not something we like to be in anymore and it’s looking like November may be just as bad.  Certainly wish it somehow could be sent to the areas that need it so badly.  The RV Park we are in has horrible internet service unless of course you pay for theirs so I have been remiss in doing the newsletter as it takes forever to get photos to load and get things sent out.

Oh all of this electronic equipment us oldies are suppose to master!  Last week a new smartphone was on my list and while I got a great guy at Verizon to help me through the process of getting what I needed and not something that had all the “stuff” that I will never use and don’t even understand, it is still daunting!. images-8 Going from an Android to an Iphone so it would sync with my Ipad meant lots of frustration and a learning curve as well as the frustration of losing most of my emails and trying to recreate all of that.  I’m hoping to spend some time with one of my grandkids who can get it all straightened out in a hurry!

TIP:  12 Things Every Rver Should Do.  This is a great article by Nick Russell and there are lots of great tips here. whether you are full time, a snowbird or weekend warrior.  http://gypsyjournalrv.com/2016/11/12-things-every-rver-should-do/.

What a Great Tip:  Sure wish I would have thought of this tip before we fixed a rack for our lids.  A great and inexpensive idea.  http://tiphero.com/kitchen-storage-space-hangers-hooks/

Great Tip from Reader Danise:  Last winter Danise told me about a cooking class put on by the government for healthy cooking and shopping options for those on a budget.  It is a FREE six-week class and she learned so much has considered taking it again.  I have been searching for a class in the north Seattle area and finally found one.  My friend Marilu and I are taking the class and it really does have a lot of good information.  This week we made a Veggie Lasagna that was delicious.  We were sent home with everything we needed to make it at home after taking part of making it in class and tasting it.  If you are interested in finding a class in your area check out their Facebook page.  https://www.facebook.com/cookingmatters.national/.

Contest Entries:  As I said when I started the contest, I would list all the entries I received and let you all vote for your favorite.

Avocado Tool (my favorite)

1.We love the 3 quart salad spinner, use it everyday when we are on the road as we are big salad eaters. css-2_open1 I have also occasionally used it to spin out excess water from my sons socks after getting caught in a storm or two.

2.My favorite product that I purchased from you is the Avocado scoop/knife.  I love it as much as I love avocados.  gt-3562_capartSo glad that I purchased it and I use it all the time.

3.I absolutely love WashEze. WashEZE I have a washer and dryer in our motor home and cut those sheets in half and put them in a lingerie bag and throw it in the dryer too.  When all is dry I use the used up sheet to remove the lint from the lint filter.  I swear by them!!

4.We love the WashEZE and recommend it to others. WashEZE I cut them into thirds so I get 30 washes out of a box.  So handy!!

5.The Fiskie is my “go to” utensil….small-fiske-2

Wow what a time saver, to say nothing of just plain handy…My favorite use is for making potato, pasta or rice salads.   I can use it for stirring the rice/pasta in the pot.  Then as I usually make   or adapt my own dressings I can scoop out the mayo or?, add my own spices and seasonings to make my dressing.. Using the same fiskie, I mix the salad with the dressings, and then leave it in the bowl to use for serving.

6.  The chopper (now called the salsa maker)

Salsa Maker

A Tip that came in after the contest was closed:

My little thing that I put on the top of a tuna can to use in draining got mangled.   I usually buy water pack so always need to do a good job of draining.  Yesterday, I was doing some dinner prep using a large can of tuna, and was looking for some way to “dry” the tuna….Rustling thru my kitchen drawer, and low and behold.   There was a red plastic scoop with holes. 2171_straining-scoop-colander It took the large size can of tuna and with little effort and a fork I got the results I wanted.  Thanks so much Danise…that scoop is one of Mike’s favorite tools.  https://rvspacesavers.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=35&product_id=162.

Tips and Ideas from RV Space Savers

Hello from Seaside, Oregon. Seaside, Oregon Seaside, a beautiful coastal community has historically been one of the Oregon Coast’s most visited and popular oceanfront resorts and is located only 80 miles from Portland. There are lots of activities around the area besides walking on the beach and is close to the winter home of the Lewis and Clark Expedition at Fort Clatsop.  A fun place to spend some time.  We are here with several RV friends for 2 weeks of sightseeing, morning coffee and goodies, 4 p.m. cocktails and snacks and sometimes either dinner or dessert! Living and traveling in an RV is the best life ever with lots of great food, new recipes, laughs, games and visiting with friends and meeting new ones.

Great Tip:  30 Awesome things to do in retirement.  Many of us living and traveling in an RV are retired or at least semi-retired.  This list may give you some ideas of ways to spend your time whether while you’re traveling or sitting in a warm spot during the winter or cool spot during the summer. The list of ideas are endless…use your creativity.  Here are 2 great lists. http://www.moneytalksnews.com/slideshows/30-awesome-things-retirement/?all=1.     http://earlyretirementextreme.com/wiki/index.php?title=Long_list_of_things_to_do_when_you_retire

Tip:  Keep tabs on the stuff in your freezer!  We just had to replace our Norcold fridge and chose to purchase a residential one that would fit in the space. It not only gave us another 3.5 cubic feet of fridge and freezer space but weighs one hundred pounds less and was an easy install.  It also gave us a chance to really sort through things in both the fridge and freezer and get rid of things that we had forgotten and had become freezer burned or out of date.   I found this article online and thought it was worth sharing.  Ways to keep foods from freezer burning.  http://tiphero.com/avoid-freezer-burn/?

A Tip Worth Trying:  I have used Scrubbing Bubbles in the shower for years and it does a great job but it is not cheap and of course has chemicals in it.  I saw this the other day and am certainly going to try it. dawnvinegar I keep both products in the RV so I don’t have to purchase anything to try it and IF it works, I will save both space and money.    http://tiphero.com/2-ingredient-shower-cleaner/?  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hyX_-Qev7o.

RV Space Savers Tips and Ideas

seattlejapanesegarden_21_web-mFall is certainly in the air and even some snow has been reported in the mountain states! One of the wonderful things about being in the Northwest in the fall is the stunning colors of the different maples.  Some day we hope to get back east to see the breathtaking fall colors there which are so different than those in the west.  Where ever you are I hope you are enjoying beautiful fall weather and colors unique to each area.

Fall means different things to RVer’s.  Some travel in them all summer and put them to bed each winter, some do the opposite and get them out of storage to spend winter  down south in the warmer weather and those who live in their RV full time start thinking about slowly heading south before the weather gets too bad and some don’t leave until after the holidays.  No matter what your style of RVing is, fall is time to get the RV in shape for whatever is next for you.  For us, since we have been in the Pacific Northwest all summer, it means cleaning and organizing inside and out: cabinets, bays, and toad to make sure everything is ready for our trip south. For many others it is cleaning and organizing to put it to bed for the winter.

GREAT TIP: Fall also means that mice, spiders, mud daubers and wasps are looking for warm places to build their nests.  Earthkind has several products and great articles under their Learning section about ways to control these pests. http://www.earthkind.com/learning-center/control-mice, and http://www.earthkind.com/learning-center/control-spiders. And Amazon as well as many RV Parts stores have screens to cover furnace and other openings to keep out wasps and daubers.  https://www.amazon.com/JCJ-M-300-furnace-Outside-Fitting/dp/B00076WQBS.  Better to protect yourself before a problem arises.

Some Great Cleaning Tips: Here are 27 cleaning tips for things you may have wondered how best to clean.  Some don’t apply to RV’s but many of them do. http://tiphero.com/27-hard-to-clean-things-solved/?utm_source=Tip+Hero+Newsletter&utm_campaign=58000b6fcd-TH_NL_530_08_23_2016&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_5665396f02-58000b6fcd-1216341

TIP on New Credit Cards: Why You Shouldn’t Swipe the New Chip Credit Cards.  http://tiphero.com/how-to-use-chip-credit-cards/?utm_source=Tip+Hero+Newsletter&utm_campaign=58000b6fcd-TH_NL_530_08_23_2016&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_5665396f02-58000b6fcd-1216341 I found this article very interesting not only as a consumer but as a business owner.  By now we all have the new credit cards with chips in them.  According to Good Housekeeping if you can’t use the chip pay cash or watch your card closely.  We as a small business get fined IF we don’t have the new technology.  Be sure to click on the link to Good Housekeeping within the article.

A Money Saving TIP:  We love and use lots of cilantro both fresh in things like guacamole but also in  cooking.  Since many Farmers Markets still have fresh cilantro fairly inexpensively, I purchase quite a  bunch and use some fresh to make guacamole and chop the rest in the  Salsa Maker (one  of my favorite gadgets https://rvspacesavers.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=35&product_id=131), put on a paper towel and wrap in 2 thicknesses of foil and then in a Ziplock bag and freeze for use in cooking. Talk about good cooking and I always have it on hand.

Disaster Preparedness Tips from RV Space Savers Tips and Ideas

Labor Day signals the end of summer and boy is it true in Western Washington.  Trees have been turning their gold, oranges and reds since mid August and oh so beautiful but oh I’m not ready for summer to be over!fall I’m sure that has some meaning for the winter to come.  It means the kids and grandkids back to school and fall sports and of course football.  It means Rver’s are thinking about their trips heading south whether a snowbird or living full time in your RV, we all want to be out of the winter weather.

Reader TIP:  September is Disaster Preparedness Month and this guest article was shared by   Kathryn, a reader who spent 30+ years as a Disaster  Specialist for the Red Cross.  It is a great article and thanks Kathryn for sharing all this good information

Disaster Preparedness Month

Disaster Preparedness Month

“I was sitting here thinking about all the horrid storms and thought perhaps my 38+ years of being a Disaster Specialist for the Red Cross might be able to help those who are in the line of fire or who could become in the line of fire, or in this case not fire, but tornado’s and the horrible storms.
Please make sure that you have the following: 1. Water is the most major of all of our needs. Place at least 10 gallons in the trunk of your car, fill the tub to the brim and keep it full as it seeps into the drain. (Remember the liquid in all canned foods will also help with thirst.) 2. If you have a small “camping” propane stove – – get it out where you can grab it and make sure you have extra bottles of propane for it. (If you must evacuate quickly put it in the trunk of your car) 3. Dehydrated food is good to have – – but only if you have enough water to fix it! 4. Canned Tuna and Salmon will give you protein. 5. Peanut Butter & Crackers are excellent, Trail Mix, Oatmeal bars, Granola Bars, Hershey Bars (Hershey chocolate is the purest of all chocolates giving immediate energy) Gator Aid replaces lost electrolytes lost during stress.
6. Blankets and Rain Gear are so important. 7. Jewelry, Money, Guns and above all: Your prescription medication, glasses or contacts any important documents that are in your home not in your safety deposit box NEED TO BE WITH YOU! 8. Be sure to have some “kitchen size” trash bags. These work for so many things – – not the least is you have a port-a-pot (don’t forget to include potty paper in the trunk of your car) 9. A Weather Radio if it is battery operated, extra batteries, there are also “crank” ones that are great to have.
10. Pet food for you animal children along with a bowl for their water. Hold them close to you, they do not know what is going on and like a child they are SCARED and need to be comforted by you. 11. If you have small children, make sure their “favorite” thing is with you- – -stuffed animal, pillow, blanket. 12. A shovel, hatchet or ax, cigarette lighters (even if you don’t smoke) Now lets discuss your First Aid Kit: Make sure to in close the following: Gauze Pads 4″x4″ (they are the best since they fold to smaller sizes) Antibiotic salve, Surgical Tape, Band aids, several old wash cloths, Quart and Gallon Zip Lock bags (these will work as surgical gloves as a “blood barrier”) Aspirin or Tylenol. Last but not least (and yes, I know it sounds silly) Sanitary Napkins, heavy ones, they are the best “pressure pack” in case of sever bleeding. I know we are all used to having our cell phones and 911 is only a second away. However, if the cell towers are down or if everyone is trying to use them at the same time 911 will not and cannot work. Therefore, it is imperative that you be able to care for your family and those around you who need help. * It is Important if you are returning to a Flooded Home to Remember God Did NOT CREATE ANY CREATURE THAT CANNOT SWIM — THIS INCLUDES SNAKES !! THEREFORE DO NOT REACH WHERE YOU CANNOT SEE — THE TOP OF A REFRIGERATOR IS AN EXAMPLE !

Not only am a Disaster Specialist, but have taught Survival Courses, Emergency Preparedness, Advanced First Aid, along with EMT and Para Medic Courses.

I hope these hints will help anyone who is in need. God’s Blessings to each and all.”
