RV Space Savers wishes you all a Happy, Healthy, Safe and Prosperous 2018. We look forward to seeing many of you at upcoming rallies around the country.  Our upcoming rally schedule  is the SE FMCA Rally on Feb 8,9 and 10th in Lakeland, FL then on  to the National FMCA Rally in Perry GA  March 15-18th and the Georgia Good Sam Rally in Perry, GA  March 22-25th.

We would like to thank all our customers and readers of our newsletters for the past few years.  As I had told you last summer, this newsletter is for you and we have over 500 signed up to receive the newsletter.  Sadly less than 50% of you open the newsletter (and getting fewer all the time) and less than 10% of you click on any of the links within it and less than 1% of you order from any of the product links on our website. Which leads us to believe the newsletter had served it’s purpose.

We subscribe to  a newsletter service to send out the newsletter which is quite expensive and for some time we have not been getting enough orders to  pay for the service.  Not only is it expensive, it is time consuming to write,  research new tips and ideas to include and other articles I think may be of interest.

With all that being said, I am enclosing a short survey for you to complete and depending upon the number and type of responses I get will determine if this is the end of these communications. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/T2N6TJ5.  The survey is only open for 30 days so please get as many responses to me a soon as possible.  Thank you.

As I have told you in this newsletter, we are hoping to sell the business to someone younger that is able to set up and tear down booths at the many RV Rallies across the country.  It is a great business and pays for our travel.

My book is selling well and has been included in the November/December issue of the Escapees Magazine “From the Bookshelf” as suggested reading.  It can be purchased at the following link.  https://rvspacesavers.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=177.

May your travels be happy and your journey be filled with new Trips, Places to visit and Things to do.  https://www.facebook.com/groups/291056790996931/?ref=bookmarks.

Some BIG News from RV Space Savers

Hi Faithful Readers…

First let me thank you all for being such faithful readers and several of you contributors, to this newsletter since its conception in 2013.  I had visions of writing one each and every week and there have been times that I have kept that promise to myself and to you.  Sadly there have been a lot of times when it has been weeks between them.  It’s amazing how life gets in the way even when you’re retired!

We have a couple of announcements to make and wanted you to be some of the first to hear the news!

The first big announcement:  A SURPRISE!

It’s finally here…a book filled with hundreds of tips and ideas for Rver’s and other small space living. Many people have asked me to do this over the years and I have been working on it for quite sometime.  It is just “hot off the press” and received a great response at the Good Sam Sambroee in Moses Lake, WA the first of the month, which is also the very first place I started giving seminars five years ago.  I thought it was very fitting that they should get to see it first.  “I’m so enjoying reading all these great ideas…thanks Gail!”  a comment from one of the first readers, Mary.  and this from Mick “Thanks for putting this all down in book form so I have something to refer to…there are so many great ideas here!.   And this from Rod and Deb…”We bought one for us and  several copies for our RV friends.”  You can order it from the website https://rvspacesavers.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=177. Only $10.00 plus shipping.   It will be going on Amazon soon but the price will be going up because of their fees.

I will be signing books during the Northwest FMCA Rally in Longview, WA this week.

I will also be giving 2 seminars as well as have a booth.  The first seminar is on Friday at 1 p.m.  “Do you need more space in your RV?”  And also one at 11 a.m. on Saturday “Tips and Ideas to help you save space.”..  Stop by our booth and say you read about the book in the newsletter and receive a free gift.

The Second Big Announcement:

Sadly RV Space Savers is selling the space saver business.  And you are the first to know! It breaks my heart as I so love it but Mike who takes the brunt of all the loading and unloading, says it’s finally time for us to stop all packing in and out at rallies and just enjoy our travels, sell books and give seminars. The business has been good to us and we have so enjoyed meeting and getting to know so many as we travel around the country. And we plan to continue to do that, just in a different capacity.  It’s a great stand alone business or would be a great addition to other RV products. If you know of anyone interested, please let me know.  Give me a call or send an email to rvspacesavers@gmail.com.

TIP:  There are some expiration dates on some things you should never ignore. According to the Reader’s Digest here is a list to go by:

  1. Jarred Condiments..spreads and sauces seem like they last forever however they have significant exposure to bacteria which puts you at risk for food poisoning.  There can be lots of cross contamination and the bacteria can start to multiply as soon as you open the jar.
  2. Egg Substitutes…whole raw eggs can stay in the refrigerator for three to five weeks but their substitutes have shorter lives.  It can last ten days after you purchase it (check the date stamp on the carton before buying) but only three to five days once opened.
  3. Soft Cheeses…semi-hard cheeses have less moisture for bacteria to thrive in so they can last two to four months in the fridge if properly stored.  However soft cheeses such as ricotta, cream cheese, feta, Brie and goat cheese spoil much faster.  They’ll last one to two weeks in the fridge after opening but toss if you spot mold as it can make you sick.
  4. Deli Meats…whether you buy your deli meat at the deli counter or those in an airtight sealed package, it will only last three to five days once you crack the seal.  Only buy what you can realistically eat in that time frame.  Deli meat is susceptible to a disease causing bacteria Listeria, which thrives in cold environments, so even your fridge won’ t offer total protection.  A little sliminess or funky smell is a good sign that it needs to go!
  5. Cold-Pressed Juices…most juices go through a pasteurization process to kill harmful bacteria but many cold-pressed varieties are not pasteurized and could be contaminated.  Only buy what you plan to drink in a day or two and buy locally.
  6. Sprouts…unlike other veggies sprouts are grown in warm, moist conditions that make a cozy home for for very harmful bacteria such as E.coli and Salmonella.  Sprouts won’t last as long as leafy greens and should be tossed on their expiration date.  Many supermarkets have stopped selling them altogether because of the danger. They are easy to grow at home with a mason jar and cheese cloth or I now see kits out there you can buy.

While none of us wants to be wasteful, it is better to be safe than sorry and if there is any question, it is better to toss it than take a chance on making someone sick!

Great Places to Visit:  Beneath the Streets: Underground Havre, MTJust a few weeks ago we traveled to Great Falls, MT to meet with several RV friends, some who were using Great Falls as their jumping off point for a trip to Alaska, others who were spending time in Canada visiting Banff and Jasper National Parks and the Ice Fields and us who were coming back to Moses Lake to the Good Sam Sambroee.  One of the days we were there we drove to Havre to visit Beneath the Streets: Underground Havre which was a hoot!  And our guide was a former history teach from the area so she knew lots of “secrets” about what went on underground!  It starts in a great little railroad museum which is well worth the time.  http://billingsgazette.com/news/state-and-regional/montana/the-underground-city-havre-beneath-the-streets/article_0840461c-60fe-5501-99d9-b94adebfa7c7.html.

We love hearing from you and hope your journey is filled with new experiences, new finds and many new friends.  Until next time.
