Happy Anniversary RV Space Saving Tips and Ideas

Share Button

It’s our 6th anniversary and we would like to thank you all for helping to make

RV Space Savers a success in these past 6 years.

Thinking back to when and why we started this business, I am reminded of when we first moved into our motor home planning to live full time and spend the rest of our lives traveling this beautiful country.  Getting ready to sell our home and its contents we loaded into the motor home all the things we thought we needed and some things we thought we wanted to take with us…WHAT A MISTAKE!  Within 90 days I was going crazy being unable to find things we wanted and knew we had.  Having to empty drawers, cabinets, closets and basement bays to find what we were looking for is the very thing most of us who live or travel in an RV struggle with.  I told Mike either we find some solutions or I wouldn’t be able to continue our dream.  And after several years of research, organizing the motor home (a never ending project as I discover new ways to save space and make our lives easier)and filling my need to help others, we started the business to share the tips, ideas and products with others.  And neither of us have regretted it for a minute.  As time has gone on, I started giving seminars and then this newsletter was born.  I hope you enjoy it and I get many, many great comments on the seminars I give.

As I stated last week, January is typically Organizing Month and I am always looking for new ways to make life easier and simple without taking up space.

Great Tip:  A tip similar to this was submitted by an attendee of one of my seminars several years ago with her tip being: When you leave your RV for a day or several hours, write on a white board where you are going and when you plan to return.  In case of an emergency others would be able to have a starting point.  Another seminar attendee suggested something very much like this photo and is an excellent idea as if you had an emergency while in you RV and needed emergency help, you may not know the address of where you are staying. Just make sure you change the information as you travel.

Tip Sent in By Reader:  37  Favorite Ideas to Save Time in the Kitchen…sent to me by Marilu from Jillee.  Thanks to both.

http://www.onegoodthingbyjillee.com/37-sanity-saving-kitchen?

Tip to TRY:  Kill Those Ants…I haven’t tried this and don’t know if it works but many have reported that it does and since it is so simple and you probably already have the ingredients, it’s certainly worth a try!  http://www.hometalk.com/17429659/kill-ants-instantly-natural-diy-spray-?se=fol_new-20170107-1&date=20170107&slg=d6ac1c5aa0b3da94aa1acd2fd20265b9-15287402.

Great Reader Tip:  TWILIGHT SAFETY

Walking at sunrise or sunset can be peaceful and invigorating for both the body and the soul.

However, low light conditions can be dangerous.   Here are a couple of tips to stay safe while enjoying your walk.

  1. Wear light or white clothing so you are easily visible to drivers.

Fluorescent colors actually appear dark in low light.

  1. Choose shoes, jackets, and safety vests with retro-reflective patches

     that shine in headlights.

3..Carry a flashlight and keep it on so drivers will see it.  If possible carry it

on the “street side” for better visibility to the driver.

  1. Remove your sunglasses at dusk so you can see anything that might

    endanger you.

This tip was sent in by reader Danise…thanks so much.

Another note from Danise: For Walking your Dog:  There are many leashes, collars, etc. that are reflective as well.

We have recently saw a collar that had flashing red LED lights all the way around. We recently bought one at Mud Bay for our dog, that looks like a tube.. It comes in one size fits all, and you just cut off the excess, then slip on and off the dogs head as needed.  It also came in blue and neon green. We chose the green one as being more visible.

Hello from Seaside, Oregon. Seaside, Oregon Seaside, a beautiful coastal community has historically been one of the Oregon Coast’s most visited and popular oceanfront resorts and is located only 80 miles from Portland. There are lots of activities around the area besides walking on the beach and is close to the winter home of the Lewis and Clark Expedition at Fort Clatsop.  A fun place to spend some time.  We are here with several RV friends for 2 weeks of sightseeing, morning coffee and goodies, 4 p.m. cocktails and snacks and sometimes either dinner or dessert! Living and traveling in an RV is the best life ever with lots of great food, new recipes, laughs, games and visiting with friends and meeting new ones.

Great Tip:  30 Awesome things to do in retirement.  Many of us living and traveling in an RV are retired or at least semi-retired.  This list may give you some ideas of ways to spend your time whether while you’re traveling or sitting in a warm spot during the winter or cool spot during the summer. The list of ideas are endless…use your creativity.  Here are 2 great lists. http://www.moneytalksnews.com/slideshows/30-awesome-things-retirement/?all=1.     http://earlyretirementextreme.com/wiki/index.php?title=Long_list_of_things_to_do_when_you_retire

Tip:  Keep tabs on the stuff in your freezer!  We just had to replace our Norcold fridge and chose to purchase a residential one that would fit in the space. It not only gave us another 3.5 cubic feet of fridge and freezer space but weighs one hundred pounds less and was an easy install.  It also gave us a chance to really sort through things in both the fridge and freezer and get rid of things that we had forgotten and had become freezer burned or out of date.   I found this article online and thought it was worth sharing.  Ways to keep foods from freezer burning.  http://tiphero.com/avoid-freezer-burn/?

A Tip Worth Trying:  I have used Scrubbing Bubbles in the shower for years and it does a great job but it is not cheap and of course has chemicals in it.  I saw this the other day and am certainly going to try it. dawnvinegar I keep both products in the RV so I don’t have to purchase anything to try it and IF it works, I will save both space and money.    http://tiphero.com/2-ingredient-shower-cleaner/?  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hyX_-Qev7o.

Product Sale Ending This Friday at Midnight  The sale on the Guacamole and Salsa Bowls is ending this Friday September 30th at midnight.  Hurry to get this great deal for $2.00 off each bowl.  Makes a great gift as well as using to serve guacamole or salsa at your RV get-together’s .  Just used them during cocktail hour last night and they were a big hit!  Order either or both and get my Pomegranate Guacamole recipe and my daughter-in-law’s yummy Salsa recipe.  Picture1 https://rvspacesavers.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=35&product_id=160  https://rvspacesavers.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=35&product_id=161.

Happy Valentine’s Day Tips & Ideas from RV Space Savers

Share Button

Happy Valentine’s Day to you all.  The weather is warming up in the Coachella Valley with day time temperatures in the mid-80’s.  This was what we had been waiting for when it was in the low 30’s at night!

President Obama arrives in the valley today for 4 days so traffic on the west end of the valley will be a nightmare and no place to be.  According to the news there will be lots of folks lining the travel route to catch a glimpse of the President and of course those who are protesting a variety of issues.  A good place to be as far away from as possible!

TIP:  A great tip for your Special Valentine!  This is one of the easiest tips I think I have ever posted and doesn’t save space but sure saves time!  The park was hosting a Pool Party and we were all to bring a dish to share.  I happened to be at Costco and saw a vanilla cheesecake that I thought would be fun to make my own.  I had some caramel which I heated and added at least 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt.  I let that cool then poured over the top of the cheesecake then sprinkled it with lightly sea salted roasted almonds that I had chopped in the Salsa Maker

Salsa Maker

(one of my very favorite products and used to be called an Herb & Veggie Chopper https://rvspacesavers.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=35&product_id=131 ).  I chilled in the refrigerator overnight so the caramel was set but not hard.  It was a huge hit!  Everyone wanted to know what it was and who made it…and it was the only dessert that was completely gone at the end of the potluck.  So if you need a new idea give this a try.

Tip from Danise:  Have been taking a free cooking class offered/sponsored by the federal govt.  It’s always interesting to get new info/ideas &/or reinforce what one already sort of knows.  As a result of something that I learned I went on to the internet.  It concerned taking care of your knives and choosing good cutting boards.  The site recommends a bamboo for fruits/veggies, and a plastic one for meats.  Glass is very hard on knife blades.  Also recommends oiling whatever wooden board you have, using food quality mineral oil.  Great tips Danise.  It is so important to use different boards for meat, fish and chicken than you do for fruit and veggies.

Great Places to Visit:  Groom Cross.   I wanted to add a note about another wonderful place to visit.  If you are traveling east on I-40 through Texas, you should take time for a stop in Groom, TX.  There is a giant cross that stands 193 feet high, and can be seen from 5 miles away on the Interstate.  We have been there twice now.  Besides the giant cross, you will find the stations of the cross, a tribute to aborted babies, a depiction of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, and the last Supper.  There is a very beautiful grotto, and an incredible gift shop on the site.  There is also a theater where you can watch a short video that is very moving.  It is well worth the time you will spend there.  Thanks Jim & Sue.  It looks like a wonderful place to visit.  Here is a link to more information. http://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/12568

That’s all for this time.  Safe and happy travels everyone.  We love hearing from you with your tips and ideas.  Contact us at rvspacesavers.com.

Good morning from Sunny Desert Hot Springs.  We are under a high wind warning this afternoon through tomorrow evening with rain expected shortly.  Our window looks out on Big Bear Mountain which is white but this morning we can see the storm coming over the mountains.  Winds could have gusts of 70 MPH and we’re hoping they don’t hit.  One of the benefits/disadvantages of living in an RV!  Last night we enjoyed a gorgeous desert sunset which we can see so much better being out at Desert Pools RV Park.

Desert Sunset.

We really enjoy it here and is an RPI Park for us.  It has a nice pool and 3 hot pools of different temperatures from the hot springs in the area.

TIP:  Speaking of pools.  I posted this tip several years ago but it is worth a repeat.

Chlorine is not good for your swim wear.  Also read this article on great tips on how to remove the harsh chemicals used in pools.  http://www.wikihow.com/Protect-Your-Bathing-Suit-from-Pool-Chemicals.

TIP from a Reader:

Many of us have the thin nylon cutting mats.

Cutting boards

They are easy to store and light weight.  Just attended a cooking class where these were used, but they put an 8 X 8 or so piece of that rubber drawer/shelf liner that we use in our RVs under these sheets to prevent slipping and sliding. How clever!

Rubber shelf liner

Another use for the same piece of the rubber “fabric” is under mixing bowls, either glass or metal.  Thanks Danise…great tips. Here are some other great uses for the rubber shelf liner.  http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf585365.tip.html

We had several replies to our question on how you heat your RV.  Most use a small electric heater when possible and some have fireplaces that take the chill off.  Everyone tries to use as little propane as possible.  We have found a huge price variation of propane as we travel and do everything we can to conserve.  We have a NuWave cooktop and are thinking seriously of getting a NuWave Oven.  We have heard they work well.  Our only hesitation is where to store it when not in use!  Do any of you have one and where do you store them?

Product Sale:  All the following tools are normally $8.00 each.  On sale while supplies $6.00 each

Great Places To Visit: Steamboat Arabia in Kansas City, Missouri.  We visited this amazing museum several years ago on a trip through the Midwest.

Steamboat Arabia

It is a MUST SEE if you are in the area.  Here is a great story in Roadtreking America about the story of the steamboat and its discovery. Thanks for the great article Mike.   http://roadtreking.com/steamship-arabia/.  Also another link with information http://1856.com/.   At the time we visited there were still over a million artifacts in storage to clean and put in the museum.

Happy Hanukkah to all our Jewish Friends.

Good Morning…can you believe it is only 16 days until Christmas.  What do you do as an RVer for the holiday?  Are you living full time in your RV?  Do you stay home until after Christmas and then become a Snowbird?  Do you and your family spend the weekend at an RV Park not too far away from home?  Do you have family that comes to visit wherever you are? While we live full time in our RV, some years we stay at our home base which is near our family, some years they come to us which is what is happening this year in the San Diego area and other years we fly home for a week or so.  We always are in southern California the first of January as we are exhibitors at the WHMA FMCA Rally in Indio. Hope to see many of you there.  We so love to see friends as we travel.

TIP:  Purge, purge, purge and donate things you no longer use, things you put in your RV that you never use and clothes you don’t wear or that don’t fit, shoes you don’t wear (or don’t need).  Sadly we all purchase things we’re sorry about later or things that we think are a good idea at the time we buy them and turn out not to be so.  Don’t let your RV become cluttered with these things.  Its a win-win-win. 1) You get rid of clutter.  2) Someone else can use them.  3)  You get a tax write-off.  Being organized is not a one time thing but an ongoing process for us all.  Here is a great article to read on the subject.  http://organizingmadefun.blogspot.com/2015/11/3-simple-steps-to-staying-organized.html.

Great Idea I Read:  Go through your pantry, kitchen food cabinet,s fridge and freezer and make a list of what you have.  Post it on the wall close to your shopping list.  When you are making your shopping list, you know the items you already have.  We have started doing this and boy has it helped.  No longer do we have 6 cans of tomatoes and 3 of black beans and none of the refried beanswe needed for a meal this week!

New Product:  Splatter Guard

Effectively shield much of your stove and it’s surrounding environment by using this screen. Works great for frying or browning things on the stove. Also works great for mixing batters to keep from splattering. You get 3 hinged panels each measuring 10-inch by 9-inch /25-1/2cm by 23cm.  Folds flat for easy storage. Durable nonstick finish for easy cleaning. Hand wash.  We have 2 of these and boy do they work to keep spatters off the walls when cooking.  They also work great when mixing flour into a recipe to keep the dust contained. https://rvspacesavers.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=163

******Don’t forget to have any orders to us by the 10th if any of your order is Christmas Gifts.  The mail is already slow.   We had a 2 day Priority package that was to have been delivered on Monday and still hasn’t arrived.  We don’t want you to be disappointed that your order didn’t arrive on time so please get them in within the next couple of days.  http://www.rvspacesavers.com/shop/

Great Places To Visit:  We LOVE good BBQ and are always on the lookout for it in our travels.  I thought this was a great article that many of you may enjoy.  “Following the BBQ Trail in South Carolina.”  Sure hope to do this one day soon…YUM!  https://www.yahoo.com/travel/south-carolina-bbq-trail-the-1310928899194934.html.

It is a busy time of year for everyone but we love to hear from you and get your tips and ideas and great places to visit.  We would love to share with others.

Visit us at http://www.rvspacesavers.com and Like us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/RVSpaceSavers/.

Have a great week and please pray for San Bernadino.

Happy Thanksgiving and Greetings from Palm Springs Thousand Trails.  The park is furnishing the turkeys and we are all bringing traditional dishes to share in the fellowship of Thanksgiving. Even living in an RV,  I also do a turkey dinner for just Mike and I, with all our favorites, as we love the leftovers as much as the dinner itself.  Our little RV oven does a fine job on a turkey breast! We hope you have a wonderful day filled with many things to be thankful for.The park is quite empty but I imagine right after the holidays it will fill up fast and surely will be full for the FMCA Rally in Indio starting January 9th and several golf tournaments starting right after the first of the year. I held a seminar on Tuesday afternoon at the Rec Room which was very well attended and have plans to give several more on different space saving ideas while we’re here for the winter.  Seems most of us have issues with space and ways to save it on our rigs.

We dodged a bullet over the weekend as they predicted high winds starting an hour before the Street Fair closed but thankfully they missed us.  Our prayers go out to all those around the country who have been having such nasty weather already and those who got caught traveling in it.

Tip of the Week:

Spend some time going through your paperwork. Think of this?  500 sheets of Bond paper (17 x 22 inches) weigh 20 lbs, then a ream of paper cut to Letter size will be labeled as 20 lb. And if 500 sheets of Cover paper (20 x 26 inches) weigh 65 lbs, then a ream of this paper trimmed to tabloid size would be marked as 65lb.  How many sheets of paper are you carrying in your rig?

How much of it do you really need?  How much of it can you find somewhere else if you needed to refer to it?  Do you really need to save all those magazines?  Can you tear out the articles you really want to read.or can you read the article online?

Scanner

Can you scan your receipts and keep them on

Thumb drives

thumb drives or on the Cloud.

Cloud

I remember hearing when computers first came out that we would do away with paper!  What a joke that turned out to be.  Small portable scanners are fairly inexpensive and take up very little space.  Think about getting one and quit carrying around all that paper.

Also books are heavy. Can you read them online, your Smartphone, Kindle, laptop or notebook?

And think of all the space you would save besides the weight!  Be honest with yourself and do this with your traveling partner.  Things that may be important to one, may not be to the other.  But I guarantee you if you are honest with yourselves you will be able to create some new space.  Here’a a post to help you get started thinking about how to start your project.  http://www.lifetimemoms.com/how-to/8-ways-to-get-a-handle-on-paper-clutter  And here is a great article on what to keep and what to toss. http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/2010/03/conquer-the-paper-piles/index.htm.

Tip from a Customer:  Once you de-seed pomegranates you can freeze them.  She freezes them on a cookie sheet so they don’t stick together and when frozen puts them in Ziplock bags to use when they aren’t in season.  I have some in the freezer so will let you know how they turn out when I use them.  I can taste these great little bursts of fruit in a salad, dip or salsa.

New Products of the Week: These two new products are great for those holiday parties, RV get togethers, parties and make great gifts.

Guacamole Bowl by RV Space Savers

The Guacamole Bowl is shaped like an avocado.

Salsa Bowl by RV Space Savers

The Salsa Bowl is shaped like a red chili pepper.

Great Places To Visit:  Usually the night after Thanksgiving many cities and towns hold their lighting ceremonies and I’m sure you will find some in your area.

The Mission Inn in Riverside, CA

We have seen some gorgeous ones in different cities so be sure to check them out wherever you are.  And if you’ve not heard of it there is a show on TV called “The Great Christmas Light Fight” which starts on December 7th on ABC.  If you enjoy that kind of thing be sure to check it out.  http://abc.go.com/shows/the-great-christmas-light-fight.

During this Thanksgiving, we are thankful for all of you our readers, customers, followers, family and friends, our health, wonderful lifestyle and freedoms we have.  We wish you too many, many things to be thankful for this Thursday and all year long.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to the people of France and Paris during this difficult and tragic time in their history.

A special thank you to all our military personnel fighting for our freedom and especially those families who can not be with their loved ones during the holiday season.

NOTE:  All orders need to reach us by December 10th to insure you will receive them in time for Christmas

One of the things we love most about traveling and living in our RV is the wonderful people we meet and how helpful most people are.  Loving to share, whether it’s a tip or idea, an appetizer or pot luck dish, these are the things that make up our wonderful RV community.  I love to see guys all clustered around someone who seems to be having trouble with their RV or toad to offer any help they can or neighbor helping neighbor in an RV Park if the need arises.  It so reminds me of how we grew up as children, in smaller communities where everyone helped everyone else.  What is your favorite tip for small spaces?  Do you have a unique idea or tip to share with others on how you make the space in your RV work best for you?  Please let us hear from you.

I apologize for no newsletter last week and being so late this week.  I have been having some computer issues for the past couple of weeks.  There was a chance that I had a virus on my computer and I certainly didn’t want to be spreading it around.  Luckily it wasn’t a virus, just my anti-virus software cranking up their site with so many viruses out there and trying to protect my computer.

TIPS:

ORGANIZATION   One of my favorites and one I get asked a lot about.  How do I organize this, how can I save space in the bathroom, the bedroom and the kitchen.  I try to give lots of these kinds of tips in my seminars.  Purging and baskets are my 2 favorite solutions.

Both are “freeing” by ridding yourself and your RV of things you don’t use and your mind of clutter.  Here’s a

great link to a short article on 5 Reasons Why Organizing is FUN (well maybe that’s going a little to far)!  http://organizingmadefun.blogspot.com/2015/09/5-reasons-why-organizing-is-fun.html#more

Here is another great article on Organizing.  Some of which will work great in an RV.  http://www.goodhousekeeping.com/home/tips/g2610/best-organizing-tips/?slide=4

One of our readers and customers sent me this article.http://food52.com/blog/13912-the-best-way-to-store-lettuces-other-greens-a-controversial-method.  Thanks Marijke.  I find it very interesting and would love to try it.  However having an RV fridge, I am only able to use my salad spinner to spin the greens and then put it away.  After reading the article I thought I should address the Produce Keepers and all the things you can do with them.

For those of you who have them, they work great to keep lettuce and greens for long periods of time.  Baby spinach for up to 5 weeks, romaine lettuce up to 4 weeks.  Do not wash before storing and follow the directions for each type of produce you are using it for as to how much air and moisture each needs.  I have 3 small ones in my fridge at all times and use them for everything.  Right now I have one filled with mini cucumbers (3 week old ), one with radishes (2 weeks old) and one with spinach (going on 4 weeks).  While they work wonderfully for berries, you can use them for tons of different kinds of produce.  One of our customers uses the 4 qt. keeper to keep bananas from browning and just sets it on the counter (don’t refrigerate bananas). We’re not great banana eaters but I have tried it and Mike ate the last banana on the 8th day and it hadn’t turned brown.  There are 2 sizes of keepers: A 4 quart and a 2 quart.  For those who have an RV fridge like we do, the small ones work best as the 4 qt. will only fit on the top shelf.  For those who have residential fridges, the 4 quart works great.  https://rvspacesavers.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=35&product_id=77.

New Product:  Small Fiskie    We started carrying these this winter but I don’t think I’ve ever told you about them.

Made of silicone and heat resistant up to 400 degrees, this is a fork and whisk combined.  Great space saver. Quickly whisk, stir, blend and mix.  Incorporate air into eggs or cream. Use it to fold whipped cream into recipes. Perfect to mix protein drinks. Transfer food to a plate. Scoop and drain.  Safe for nonstick and glass.  They sold like hotcakes at the FMCA Rally in Pomona and I have had lots of great comments about them.  Being able to get rid of those wire whisks that take up so much space is a real plus with this tool. https://rvspacesavers.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=35&product_id=150

Tip from customer:  Mouse wasn’t responding properly.   Took it apart… wiped ball with rag/alcohol.  Cleaned inside of mouse w/q tip, dipped in alcohol.  …. wiped mouse pad w/same rag/alcohol.   All working well now.  Great tip…thanks Danise.

Being back home after our speedy trip to Fresno, we are thankful for the safe trip and time spent with family.  We drove through a lot of smoke, some so thick it totally blocked out the sun and you couldn’t stand to be outside the truck without coughing and eyes watering.  I don’t know how the firefighters do it hour after hour, day after day and in many cases in over 100 degree temperatures.  Our hearts and prayers go out for their safety.  They are true heros.

These Are A Few of My Favorite Things

“These Are A Few of My Favorite Things!”  Through the years, I have found some products that have become some of my favorite things and do the job as they promise.  We all have purchased products that make claims to do exactly what we buy them to do, only to get them home and find they really don’t work all that well!  I have found these to be  real space savers as they work for a multitude of things so I have 3 items to store rather than 10 different ones to do 10 different things!  We all are looking for easy and ways to save space in our RV’s and these have proved to be winners over the years.  Here are 3 of my “go to’s”

FOLEX ® This is an amazing carpet stain remover.  Just saturate the spot and rub it in with your finger tips and blot with a rag or paper towel.  It also works on upholstery and is non-toxic.   Also works on clothes although I haven’t tried it.  Here is a fact sheet on Folex.  http://www.folexcompany.com/folex-facts/

GOOP® Hand Cleaner  Not only for dirty hands!  Works great for stains on washable clothes.  I have used this product for many years on hard to remove stains.  Directions say to let sit for an hour before washing but if the stain is a stubborn one I have found that leaving it on for 24 hours usually gets the stain out.  Also claims it works on carpet and upholstery but I haven’t tried it.They even have one formulated for long haired dogs. It is non-toxic and biodegradable.  http://goophandcleaner.com/original-goop/

And probably my favorite White Vinegar.  There isn’t much I don’t use it for.  From washing fruit and vegetables to keeping the drains clean and using it in the washer to make sure the detergent has been removed from clothes to disinfecting counter tops and cutting boards, the list goes on and on.  I have seen advertised an extra strength white vinegar for cleaning but I have not seen it in stores.  Here is a mega list of things vinegar can be used for.

New Product:  Microwave Rice Cooker  Easy to use…BPA free…includes locking lid, measuring cup and paddle.  Cooks up to 6 cups of rice.  Check it out here https://rvspacesavers.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=145. While it is not collapsible it takes up very little space.  We have had great feedback on this item.  And it sure helps keep the kitchen cool when cooking in the heat.

Trips, Places To See, Things To Do

I can’t believe it is already after the first of August and on our quick trip to California last week, we saw some leaves already turning and have also seen it starting since we have been back in the Seattle area.  I don’t know about you, but I am not ready for fall!  While I love the beautiful colors, I know that winter is on it’s way.  Having been born and raised in Montana that meant snow and cold were right around the corner and not something I enjoyed once I was no longer a kid!   Here are some photos of some breathtaking fall foliage photos.  And no matter where you are when they start to turn, I’m sure you too can find some amazing ones. Please let us know if you have any favorites or travel tips to share.  I also posted a list of the 10 best on the Facebook group page. https://www.facebook.com/groups/291056790996931/

TIps from you, our customers:  Use plastic baskets in the refrigerator to store small things and keep them from rolling around.  Also use them in the freezer to keep things from falling out when you open the door.  (Sadly there was no name on this tip so I don’t know who to give credit to). Great ideas.

Tips for Your RV from RV Space Savers

Good Morning

We hope you are enjoying your summer travels or your summer home if you have a home you go back to in the summer.  Living in an RV is a fun experience and no matter what kind of RV we have, we all need to save space and weight.  It is important to most of us that there is a place for everything and everything has a place.  I know as we sit for a month or more, it seems as though we bring in things that we have not found that special place for so when it is time to be on the road again, it is important to find that storage space.

A couple of ideas that Rver’s use is: 1) If you bring something in, something else has to go out!  And 2)  After sitting in one place for a month or more, go through all the cabinets, drawers, doors, etc., (this goes for you guys as well in the basements).  It is amazing the things you find that you really don’t use or just haven’t kept those storage areas as organized as you do when you’re traveling and know you have to keep things straight to find things.  Try them both and see what works best for you.  It may be a combination of both.  Or do you have another idea?  If so, please share it at rvspacesavers@gmail.com and I will add it to an upcoming newsletter.

One of my favorite tips:

Mr. Clean Erasers really are magic!

Mr. Clean Magic Erasers.  They can be used to clean so many things and areas and best of all they are almost weightless and pack a mighty punch of cleaning power in a great space saving product.  One of the many things I use them for is to clean off the smudges left by bottles and cans inside the fridge.  Here is a whole list of things they can do.  https://www.mrclean.com/cleanbook/magic-erasers-101

Another great space saving and organizing tips:

Small towel bar

A simple towel rod which can be used to corral many different things  and all depending on what and where you plan to use them, you can possibly use a spring loaded curtain rod to do the same without having to screw in a towel bar. Lots of Rver’s use the spring loaded rods to keep things in the fridge while traveling.

We also use them in the bedroom closet to keep things on the shelves.  Here’s a bunch more ideas.  http://organizingmadefun.blogspot.com/2015/06/11-ways-to-organize-with-towel-rods.html

A new product we are absolutely love is this Grill Racket.  We use it to make pizzas, kabobs, burgers, fish, shrimp, ham, steak tacos, you name it on the grill.  Keeps the mess outside and from heating up the inside on hot summer days.

No more things falling through the grill! It is a non stick racket and so easy to use and clean up is fast.  Many of us had those little baskets but this works so much better it is amazing.  Check it out at https://rvspacesavers.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=37&product_id=149

This week on Things to Do and Places To See:  North Cascades National Park is an amazing drive in the summer.  You can’t beat the scenery and there are 3 dams on the river to stop and visit as well

Diablo Dam Can you believe the color of the water!

as a couple of power houses, a boat tour on Diablo Lake or even stay at the Ross Lake Resort. The color of the water is mind blowing and is caused by the grinding of rock against rock producing a fine silt called “rock flour” which reacts to the light and causes the blue-green color.  Here are some great links: http://www.nps.gov/noca/index.htm;  http://www.seattle.gov/light/tours/skagit/;  http://rosslakeresort.com/

Customer tip:  Last week I shared the tip about storing dry dog food in square nut containers from Carol.  I received an email from Marijke who also uses those same containers for staples because they are square and she comments…something I learned from you at your seminar in Gillette!  Thanks Marijke.

Speaking of Marijke and Gillette…It’s a Small World after all!  While we were parked at the Thousand Trails Park in Palm Springs this winter, a couple was backing in beside us and getting set up.  The woman said “I know you…you give seminars on saving space!”  She called her husband and said this is the gal who gives seminars on space saving tips and ideas, he said “yes you taught us to roll all our clothes and I still do that!”  Made me smile. 🙂

New tip from a seminar attendee:  We write where we are camped on a dry eraser board in the car asking someone to rescue our dogs  if we should be in an accident & dogs are in the MH…Sue & Jim
